Specifically Sue has over 15 years of experience in negotiating, designing, managing and evaluating service delivery programmes (both static and outreach), behaviour change communications (BCC) and social marketing programmes predominantly in Africa.

Peer educators in Abuja, Nigeria demonstrate their behaviour change communication materials In the past Sue has held the position of Regional Director, Africa and Arab World, with Marie Stopes International, CEO of Maternity Worldwide and undertaken a number of short-term consultancies. Sue regularly provides technical assistance to and undertakes situational analyses, project evaluations and assessments on behalf of funders and NGOs and supports organisations with proposal writing and with accessing funding.

Sue has a Masters degree in Health planning, policy and financing and a background in programme management and an excellent understanding of the challenges of providing BCC, information and clinical services in resource-poor settings. She has significant experience working with harder to access and vulnerable groups such as youths, pastoralists, women, drug users and communities in challenging environments.


"Sue Newport worked on the 2007 Output-to-Purpose review of the DFID-funded Nigeria Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health for HIV and AIDS Reduction (PSRHH). PSRHH was a 52.8 million, seven-year programme with an end date of December 2008. It was the largest HIV programme funded by DFID anywhere in the world.

Sue's responsibility on the OPR team was to cover issues of organizational development and monitoring and evaluation, to undertake institutional mapping and to provide additional techncial expertise on sexual and reproductive health.
