Case Study - MSI

Mother and baby following emergency caesarean section delivery, MSI Mombasa, KenyaProviding comprehensive and integrated sexual, reproductive and maternal health services at Marie Stopes International.

As Regional Director for Africa and the Arab World with Marie Stopes International, Sue had overall responsibility for the strategic leadership of and the provision of operational and technical support to a network of sexual and reproductive health care partners throughout Africa and the Arab World. One of Sue's key successes was to work with local partners, with differing levels of experience and resources, to design and manage comprehensive services which respond to the needs of the communities in which they work whilst also meeting the expectations of national policies, frameworks such as global charters and the broader development agenda.

These initiatives included working to ensure the integration of maternity and newborn services and the introduction of HIV/AIDS prevention programmes including social marketing and behaviour change communication programmes. During her time with MSI Sue designed, managed and secured funding for a range of programmes including a national bi-laterally funded project in Malawi.

In addition Sue was responsible for ensuring the development of appropriate capacity within MSI and its partners to enable these projects to be successfully implemented. This included working with partners to determine organisational strategic and institutional strengthening plans and ensuring the delivery of required resources.
